Is it possible to install navigation on my 06 525i.I made the wrong choice not going for it and now i want it so bad.It is not convenient to place my garmin street pilot on the dash while driving.
Anyone knows about this?

I'm in the same boat as you are. There has been plenty of discussion in the forum about this topic and a few members have had a successful NAV retrofit (After several visits to the dealership for reprogramming).
Check out the attached document. One big limitation is not having the NAV wiring, so you will need to run a cable to the shark fin antenna and also add a microphone on your top console (Where the hands free mic and SOS button are)
Also you need to spend over 1,000USD in parts and it is also labor intensive so if you are planning on taking it to the dealership (That is, if any is willing to do it) you will be looking at some good $$$
Good luck

What about the same sort of question with Active Steering? I didnt order it, and now wonder if I should.

Is retrofit by the dealer even a possibility?

Dude, plenty of excellent after--market NAV systems on the market and some great ideas how to mount them.
Many threads on the NUVI 350/60

I suppose anything is possible if you're willing to pay the price -- something tells me that retrofitting AS would be plenty expensive and probably not worth it...

My Ride: 2004 545i / Orient Blue (I think) / Tan int / 116's Wheels / ... my favorite option, the HEATED steering wheel! Previous cars retired: 2006 Corvette Z51, 2002 Corvette Coupe, 2002 Mustang, 1997 Maxima, 1994 Camry, 1990 Supra None, and I mean none compare to this 545i. The 06 Corvette was faster, but not by much...

This is probably not cost effective. A trade would probably cost you less in the hit you take...

Yeah, you're probably right. I dont even know that I really miss it, having never driven with it.

But, I guess I do wonder.

If only money wasnt an issue in life....ha ha ha.

I haven't used the BMW navigation, but from what I've heard it's not the greatest. I have the Garmin Nuvi 350 installed in the car and absolutely love it! The Garmin maps aren't 100% up to date, but 95% of the time I'm able to use it. I have another car that I drive in the summer months and the portability factor is really nice.

I'd imagine for the $1500+ that the dealer would charge you to retrofit that you could get a damn nice aftermarket nav system for your car. I'm the biggest proponent as there is when it comes to having stuff built in to the car, but with something like this there are clear advantages to go aftermarket at a fraction of the price.

But, maybe I'm still jsut pissed off I didn't get nav with the car

I want the Active cruise control system. At the carshow, the BMW reps said that it wasn't a retofit. Is that right?

?Not the greatest? is a nice way to descript it, compare with other NAV system, it?s the worst of all. I didn?t regret purchase NAV on my e60 at all, because I don?t want cable and NAV sitting on the dash, it doesn?t look good on a 60000 dollar car.
