How do i access the soft menu on the left side in navigation?
I need to turn off the female voice, it's driving me nuts -and yeah I've scoured the manual to no avail.

um, move the idrive knob to the left.

Did you try yelling (after pressing voice command button) "Navigation Voice Instruction OFF"
