You don't indicate where you're located, but with a 530D it's probably not the US. I seem to recall that the European NAV systems use CDs and not the single DVD. I think I got that information from the NavTeq site.

I think it's going to depend on the options your car came with. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I believe if you have NAV Prep, it's a much easier process. You can ask the dealer, look at the invoice, or call BMW directly to find out if you have it. You can also tell, if you have voice button next to "MENU" one by the iDrive knob. If you have NAV prep, you'll need to Get a CCC, LVDS for cable for CCC, and 8.8" screen from DEALER and ask them to:

1. Install to the latest software
2. Install hardware
3. Retrofit nav in the software.

But, since someone mentioned European model's nav are CD based instead of DVD, you may not need all of the parts mentioned above. Again, it may be different for European models. But this is what I experienced attempting to get NAV retrofitted in an 04 525. Most of the parts above are available on Ebay. Good Luck.

There are (were?) original BMW nav retrofit kits for sale. They contain all the hardware you need, but you'll still need a firmware update from your dealer.
I saw one on sale on a dutch site for 2000 euro (nav pro) which is very reasonable.

I don't know where the CD vs DVD comment is coming from. I never heard of a BMW CD-based nav system in Europe, not even for the very first models.

Good luck. Keep in mind that it's going to cost a lot of time and work and check out the DIY section on this forum.

Go to the NavTeq website...the supplier of the data disks for the BMW NAV system. Europe system is CD-based.

The Professional Nav system in Europe is DVD based.

I think the Business Nav system may be CD based, but I'm not certain.

It's not, both the pre-LCI and the LCI business navigation are DVD based. The business navigation got a major upgrade since LCI, it now has maps and is pretty fast.
