I recently purchased a 2009.1 NAV (OEM) disc from a member here but when I insert it into the dvd drive, the car doesn't recognize it. It keeps asking me to 'insert navigation disc'. Inserting the old one back into works fine. I checked the dvd on my pc and there is data on it which I can read with no problem.
I have tried shutting the car down with/without the dvd to see if it read the dvd but no luck so far.
Any suggestions on what to do to get the car to read/recognize the dvd? The car is a 2005 545i.
Thanks for your insightful help.

There are two types of NAV disks, the CCC version and the non-CCC version.
There is a part number for both.
My car required the CCC version - I mistakenly bought a non-CCC version off of Ebay, had the same exact problem as you, and was able to return it for a refund. Hope this info helps.

My Ride: 95 M3 CAI, chipped, pulleys, Xbrace, doesn't give headaches every time I start up!
04 545i all the goodies INCLUDING HEADACHES!
Put the DVD into your home computer and see what's on the disc. If it's an .iso file, open the file and then burn these files to a new DVD disc exactly as they appear. Do not change the name of the disc. Burn at the lowest speed possible. Good luck!

It's an OEM disk as far as I can tell with the original packaging. The part number is 65 90 2 147 669.
My original disk indicates 'DVD-CCC'. The 2009.1 one only says DVD-ROM on it.
How can one tell the difference between the CCC version and the non-CCC version of the DVD? Thanks.

You can contact BMW to get the appropriate part number for the CCC version.

Thank you all for your insights and the clarifications about the CCC vs. non-CCC DVD. Yes, I do need a DVD marked CCC for it to work in my car.

I guess you need to upgrade software on your E60 than it will work with CCC. It will improve a lot of things in your 545i and also enable mp3, but only if you mentioned to dealer, otherwise they skip MP3.
