Default N62 spark plug help

2006 550i, n62
Need to replace my spark plugs.
See below picture, anyone know how to get the guard odd the coils. There seems to be a cover over the coils with some type of screw I don't know how to remove. It's the silver piece, any ideas?

You need E-Torx sockets.

The bracket exists to prevent the two ignition coils it rests on from backing off the spark plugs due to vibration. If the contact is not solid between the plug and coil resistance between the two can increase dramatically and damage electrical components or cause misfire.

Your fastener appears to be one that requires a female torx driver such as the set shown below.

When I changed the spark plugs on my 2004 545i the bracket was different and the fastener required a male torx driver. One of them stripped and I had to bend the bracket to remove it. I replaced the fasteners in the four brackets with regular hex head bolts to prevent problems in the future.

looks like you have been chewing on the bolt with a set of vise grips. get the right socket before you strip the head.

You may want to get a 5/8" Gear Wrench spark plug socket, too. They make a really nice one with a swiveling shank and a magnet in the head of the socket. You can pick them up at Advance Auto and Sears.

Looks like a normal, unmolested torx head to me.

Default Thanks

OK Thanks guys. I borrowed an E-torx kit and will get it done.
Good idea on the small socket if you end up with an immediate need.
