Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2006 550i with 48.5K miles. I've done quite a lot of reading on the N62 engine and its common weak points and was quite surprised on the estimated costs to repair. I also researched the alternatives from Bimmerstent, URO and AGA. I am quite aware that i will have to deal with this at some point during my ownership and having a lower mileage car doesn't guarantee that i may be spared for a while.
I'd just like to get an idea from those of you N62 owners who have had it fail, at what mileage did it occur and what route did you take in fixing?
Regards.

Not an E60, but a friend's E53 with the same engine had the little "Y" pipe under the throttle body fail. Thought it was the transfer pipe but no. Cheap and easy fix. The "Y" section is plastic, and being BMW plastic it split.

Don't know if this will help or if this will jinx me, but I have about 235 000 miles on my 2005 545 and no sign of pipe leak. Also, no sign of the valve stem leaks either.

Good question. I also have a 2006 550, with 56k miles.
Not looking forward to when I gotta make that repair.
Glad there are kits and multiple options to fix it.
Ill be following.

Are you asking about this (see my posts)?

I did replace it trying to use the simple method with minimal part removal. believe it was doable by only removing the top engine plastic covers.
