N54 Cold Start issue - zero power, no code, only on first start...?

N54 Cold Start issue - zero power, no code, only on first start...?
Hi all - the weather has definitely been on the frigid side here in Northern California (not trying to come off whiny! 
) anyway, it doesn't happen _every_ day, but quite frequently, when I first start the car for the day, it's almost like it's in limp mode. There's no code or CEL associated w/ it, but it's as if there's no boost.
If I restart it at the end of the block, it's as if nothing happened.
car runs great ever since I replaced my VANOS gears:
