Default N52K Low rpm hesitate + high fuel consumption

Hi all,

I’ve bought a 2009 630i LCI, its my first BMW, it has 2 problems since purchased:
  1. at low rpm(600) under heavy load, rpm will hesitate and drop then immediately recover, happens in drive or idle, in normal driving or WOT works perfect.
  2. Car has quite high fuel consumption and there is black smoke out of exhaust. (Full tank 350km/220mile)

To make a long story short, I’ve took it to a mechanic and he have tried to replace/exchange (Vanos solenoids, MAF, VC, vanos return valves, Spark plugs, coils, etc) only solution was an ECU from 528i he tested and the car worked fine.

He made a temporary fix by modifying some wirings, now it has code P0013, no hesitation, feels slower and still fuel consumption still high.
He suggests either drive it like that, return it the way it was or change the ECU.

- Can my ECU be updated or reset to default?

- Why would it run fine off an ECU from 528i ?

- Could it be the spark the spark plugs? The new and old spark plugs are FR7NPP332, which shows ended on RealOEM...

I’ve just bought K+Dan cable, and will install the INPA soon.

any help is really appreciated. Thank you.

Once you get INPA installed report back. Need to know what codes or messages there are. What type of coils did you use. I use to have a stumble but after I changed the coils everything was fine. Have you checked the injectors?

Every possible solution has been tried. He has an INPA.

mechanic test/changed coils (Delphi sliver ones) but no success.

Do you have the codes that were given in INPA. If you know the coils and plugs are good it would point to the injectors. Unless you have a vacuum leak. Where the hoses checked

With the hesitation there is no codes.
Mechanic has checked or exchanged the following from similar engine:

- Spark plugs new Bosch.
- Vanos solenoids.
- Coils (Delphi sliver/metal one)
- Injectors
- MAF (intake temperature actually)
- Vacuum leaks.
- Fuel filter
- CCV
- Valve cover
- Vanos return valves/filters
- Air filters
- Engine from inside
- Battery
- Camshafts sensors.
- Exhaust leaks.
- No oil leaks
thats what I remember.

He said the solution is to change the ECU, since he tried one off 528i and he had to bring key and ignition system? To make it work and the car ran perfectly fine.

Hence my question, could my ECU be reset or updated?
I’ve heard there is an updated spark plugs with 4 electrodes, maybe that is for post 2008 cars ?

@Mibrs Is your Mechanic a BMW Mechanic because it seems like he's doing a whole lot of shooting around in the dark?

That's what I was thinking. Without the codes you don't want to through more parts at the problem.

Can anyone confirm that N52K with “200 kW/272 hp” uses the 4 electrodes spark plug: NGK BKR6EQUP?

Go to RealOEM and input last seven digits of your VIN and then search for spark plugs.

I have the N52k.

It does not use the 4 pronged spark plug.
