Default N52 Engine Block Coolant Plug?

Hi,

Can anybody help with what the engine block plug circled in red is for? The position of the plug (cyl 2) justifies to be a coolant plug. However, several places on the net saying the N52 does not have a coolant plug and most BMW engines have the coolant block plug on the exhaust side and not the intake.

Thanks for your input guys.

I also would like to know what that large bolt is for, I saw that large bolt when I removed the intake manifold to replace the starter.

I would also like to know. My bentley manual doesn't mention anything about N52 engine block drain. There is reference to N54 and N62 engines. And I had checked in the forum and got only the answer that there is no plug. My radiator drain plug drain took out about 7quarts (out of a total 10.8quarts of coolant?). So it was not a complete drain in my view.

The electic water pump does help bleed the system well, of any trapped air, but still no clues on N52 engine block drain plug.

Confirmed. The plug in the picture is the engine block coolant drain plug.
