My Ride: 2004 545i Sport loaded
I am picking up my first bimmer on the 31st, a 2004 545i.
I have a few n00b questions (I'm buying the car from an out-of-state dealer, so I haven't seen it yet):
What is the power rear sunshade option?
The NAV system - how good is it? I understand it's DVD based instead of hard-drive based in this year (or so I have read)?
Did this model year have bluetooth for connecting to my cell phone? If so, will it work with a BlackBerry 8820?
It has heated rear seats. Is that exactly like it sounds? There are heaters in the rear seats for the rear passengers?
Anything else you can tell me about cool features that are built-in to the base 545 would be most appreciated.
Also - the key - is it one of those fob-only style ones, or is there a physical metal key to be inserted into the ignition? I test-drove a 2006 530i, so I know what the fob-only ones look like, but I'm not sure if it was the same in 2004.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

On the 2004 you have a real key, a metal key.
BT was available at the end of 2004 for MY 2005, AFAIK.
Heated rear seats are indeed heated, but only the bottom part, AFAIK.
Power rear sunshade is an electrical sunshade for the rear window. You can lower and raise it by pressing a button on the drivers door. But it's only up or down, nothing in between.

Thank you so much for the info.
One more question - I just called my local BMW dealer and asked if they install remote starters, and was told that they do not, and that BMW does not recommend that aftermarket ones be installed.
Can anyone here verify this?

It's true that BMW does NOT offer any remote starters.
And of course they don't recommend using them, because they can not guarantee for a car which has been modified with something like a remote starter.
BUT:
BMW does offer security vehicles, such as an E60 with a B4 protection, and the high security 7series with a B7 protection for politicians.
Those cars DOES have remote starters. But only those. And they are extremely expensive. (A B7 7er costs 500000 Euro).
