My Ride: 2008 535i LCI with sports/premium package, Sports trans with paddle shifters, CF emblems, JB4 Software, Dinan Exhaust, Navigation, M5Tech body kit, Carbon wrap interrior trim and CIC Controller.
Maybe you should just take the switch out and trace the wires... I'm sure they go to something and at least you can figure it out then and disconnect them from what ever they go to and or at least ensure they are not live leads simply laying around inside your IP somewhere waiting to start up a fire...! It seems you bought the car second hand and there are some people that don't give a crap when trading in or selling a car and just rip stuff out.

Thats definitely interesting. Maybe pull the switch out and use a voltmeter to see if there is any juice going to it? Maybe the previous owner removed the wires and or device it controlled and left the switch? I saw a 5 with an electronic air horn (the same type you see on patrol cars) installed and the guy put the switch for it in the same area.

According to the forum information the OP was last active on May 26 (date this post was started). This leaves so many unanswered questions now. I wonder if he flipped the switch and something bad happened and he'll never be heard from again.

In addition to aftermarket alarm/ignition kill switch, that's also a classic location to put a tail-light kill switch. People doing night-time evasive maneuvers find a feature like that very useful - at least that's what I've heard.
