I had this same problem, my dealer put some felt tape on the wind deflector so it doesn't rattle against the glass. Seems like a flimsy fix, and the tape is already peeling from the back side. I will probably end up taking it back.
Sounds like a "first aid" fix, while BMW is searching for the perfect solution.

I will soon be taking my car in for regular maintenance. I'll have them look at it as well.

The following are items will be looked into:

1. Squeeky/noisy brakes
2. Active Steering Fault
3. Moonroof rattle
4. White noise from radio after several hours of use in hot weather (noise starts low and progressively gets worse)
5. Moldy smell from A/C

I may have been the one Iceman was thinking of. My car has yet to go in for a service, so I haven't had it remedied yet. The sound I hear happens regardless of whether the sun shade is in place or not, but only as a rattle when going over small bumps.

I have always had the hunch that it is a slightly loose cable, since it sounds like what I imagine a rubberized or plasticized cable might sound like slapping against the inside of the roof.

I had the same problem. Was resolved by the dealer. The steel bands that hold the sunroof in place had loosened. Apparently, the problem is easy to fix.

My update - I had the same problem noonehome has. The BMW tech wrote:

"Verified rattle from sunroof disassemble center light assembly and inspect test and insert tensioning foam between sunroof cassett and headliner to tension assemblies. Reassemble and retest operation ok."

Seems to have solved the problem.

Well, OK, I'll bite. Why wouldn't you get it fixed--at least if you are in warranty?

I'm getting it fixed next time my car is in for service (in the next 2 weeks). I was just worried that in trying to fix it, they break somethine else. My car has been fairly problem free for the past 2 years and didn't want to jinx it.

I'm with BMW of North America, LLC. I've passed this message on to a BMW NA Customer Relations Representative who will be in touch with you soon.

Update on my service visit...

My service advisor tells me that everything has been fixed and my software has been updated.

However, in the process of updating my software, it seems my TCU did not like it and now my SOS button does/will not work anymore. The SA tells me that they have entered a PUMA case with BMW NA and are waiting for their response on how to proceed with my car. Anyone know what this means so I know what to expect/demand?

Also found out that my car does not support MP3 playback (I guess I bought too early... should have waited for the 535i)

Also, I still haven't heard from BMW NA Customer Relations...

I'm off to pick up my car...
