Hey Guys,

Does anyone know the engine codes for the new MY2008 engines? Just about every engine has got a slightly higher output level for MY2008 compared to prior years except the 540, 550, and M5. I'd like to update the engines page but need the new engine codes. The only one's I have are included below. BMW sure does offer a ton of different engine options for MY2008. I think it's the most they've ever offered. I have all the output/torque curves except for the U.S. engines 528 and 535. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

Humm I thought the 550 engine was more on the lines of N62B48TU or something like that... for the full name at least.

and the M5 same thing... S85B50

535i: N54B30

Yes that's right. I'm starting to think BMW doesn't distinguish each unique engine via a code. For example the 3.0 liter diesel M57D30 has 3 different power outputs over the years but the same M57D30 engine code. Hrmm... Maybe I should label the engines a different way on the site to avoid this problem. Probably I'll rename the engines by model year and include the base engine code only. I don't think anyone really cares too much about the codes anyway but I'm still curious to know..

I believe the 535 engine for NA is N54B30.

Diesels - 525d and 530d are single turbo, only the 535d is twin-turbo.

Hi nicke60gre,

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on the following points

520i: N46B20 - EU - 170 PS - New I4
523i: N52B23 - EU - 190 PS - I6 - Direct injection
525i: N52B25 - EU - 218 PS - I6 - Direct injection

525i: N53B25 - US - 215 HP - I6 - Valvetronic
528i: N53B28 - US - 230 HP - I6 - Valvetronic
530i: N52B30 - EU - 272 PS - I6 - Direct injection

535i: N54B30 - US - 300 HP/306 PS - I6 - Direct injection/twin turbo

540i: N62B40 - US 300 HP - EU 306 PS - V8 - Valvetronic
550i: N62B48 - US 360 HP - EU 367 PS - V8 - Valvetronic

M5: S85

520d: N47TU2D20 - EU - 177 PS - I4 - turbo
525d: M57TUD25 - EU - 197 PS - I6 - turbo
530d: M57TUD30 - EU - 235 PS - I6 - turbo
535d: M57TUD30 - EU - 286 PS - I6 - twin turbo

I'm not really sure if the latter part is correct ie (B25 or B28) for the 523i, 525i and 528i,
but the 523i has a 2,5 litre engine the rest a 3.0 l including the 530i and the 535i.

B stands for Benzin and D for Diesel.

PS. BMW do not use the term Direct injection but High Precision Injection.

Yep, the numbers do seem complicated and used more than once per engine so I'm going to rename the engines based on model year to make it less confusing, especially for me, and hopefully for others too so they know the site is actually being updated! I'll work on the engines today!
