Hi, I think I'm having an issue with my 2006, 525XI where two out of three times that I either use the windshield washer or use the single sweep arm that the wipers will go all the way down to where they're supposed to park and then will go up about an inch or two and just stay there. Sometimes it takes two or three single wipe sweeps to get them to go all the way down and stay there. This never happens after shutting off the wipers from constant use.

I have already pointed this out to the dealer and they reported back that they checked this operation on another car and it looks like it's normal operating condition. I say this is bull crap. I have never experienced this with my two earlier 3 series and I have never seen this with any car.

Question is, has anybody here experienced this? Is this really normal? Please let me know and if the majority of respondents indicate that this is not normal I will put more pressure on the dealer.

TIA

I seem to have noticed this more recently. Probably just a software glitch. I thought about changing the wiper blades to see if that made a difference. They may be dragging non uniformly due to wear and thus messing with the software.

C'mon fellow E60'ers, really? One answer? Won't you please do a brother a favor and take a short walk to your driveway, check it out and post your findings? You know I would.... I would really appreciate your feedback.
Thank you.

I haven't had a chance to check my 550i, but I'd bet that it is designed that way.

Our Audi and VW do something very similar. Each time you stop using them, they alternate the position that they stop in (either they stop after doing a complete swipe down, or they go down and then move up a little bit before stopping). In the manual, it is described that this system alternates which edge of the blades the pressure is put on when the wipers are stopped, and alternating the position every time is a way of prolonging the life of the wipers.

I can't remember when I last used my wipers- very rare. I just went out and looked - Mine are parked low and nearly out of sight.

I noticed this a couple of times and what "seems" to work for me is shutting the car off when the wipers are all the way up and then starting the car again.
The wipers come down to the right place and stay there and seem to return to that place after the next wipes.
But after a couple of weeks it tends to happen again and "resetting" it like this seems to be the only way to fix it.

/edit:
BTW, i asked the dealer about this problem a while back and he said it could be because of worn or wrong wipers.
Personally, because the wipers seem fine, i can't be bothered to change them simply because of the occasional wiper hick-up.

Just been out to check the operation of mine and it looks like your dealer is talking BS. They park in the same position each time on mine, no matter how many single wipes i do. GL.
