Question

It never fails. Yesterday I ran to my friends house to pick up my son(big one). I told my little one who is turning 7 and sits in a small booster seat to stay in the seat and I was walking to the door to get my other son. I have dont this numerous times mind you and he knows the drill. This isnt the first time! Anyways, im standing by her door talking as my son says goodbye and all and i see my little one out of his seat and on his back in my drivers seat. My friends daughter is 7 also and they are at the boy-hate-girl stage... She teases him, he chases her, etc.. So i see my son on his back kicking his feet into the air kinda gesturing her to get away.. and I hear this crack! My big one runs over and yells "mom, Brandon broke the windshield!".......!

Initially I thought he kicked it with his foot and im thinking to myself. Wow this kid is strong, but then I realized I have this small clear crystal ball thingy (my mom gave it to me) hanging from my mirror and if you drag the ball to the windshield it looks like he actually hit THAT. So nonetheless I grounded him from video games, playing ourside, etc. because not only did he disobey me when I told him countless times to stay in his seat, but he could have done something else with the car, broke something, etc..

I called ins company and apparantly we have some plan that covers it all. I dont even have to pay a detuctible, nothing! They are coming tomorrow between 8-12 to replace my windshield in my driveway. I told them a rock hit the windshield. Luckily you cant feel anything on either side and it is a small crack that starts about 7 or 8 inches from the top and creeps upward. I assume it may get worse over time today, I dont know for sure. Anyways, im pissed off about it. Cranky that it even happened. School started yesterday and it was a great way to start it off in my book

Today my little one is walking upstairs and he calmly states "mom, I feel fine, I dont even feel like im grounded" in such a non-chalant way that almost made you crack up. Thankfully I didnt

Kids will be kids. Thankfully, Brandon did not hurt himself while doing it. Can you get the installer to install an OEM replacement windshield??

I would think that your body shop could order an OEM windshield but your insurer might have to pay the difference between the OEM cost and the cost of an aftermarket windshield.

I am no expert on the differences between an OEM windshield and an aftermarket one but I do recall that there have been some recent posts here on that very topic.

im not even going to a body shop. there coming here to replace it. i have geico. dont know if that means squat.lol.. ive had windshields replaced before but that was on my mustang, and from my b.f punching it.(guess i got him mad) anyways i didnt care at the time as it had no fancy sensors and all. im truly not sure if its oem, doubt it honestly, but i know itll have the rain sensor my car has. to be honest i doubt bmw will even check that when i finaly do return the car. someone correct me if im wrong please, as i have them coming tomorrow. thanks so much! mel

Sorry, Mel, that's a drag. At least you're not out any $$. When my brother and I were about that age, we were shoving each other in my mom's car and we managed to break the glass moonroof. Not just a crack, the whole thing spiderwebbed. Insurance did not cover it and my mom was PISSED. Oh, well, it will make for a funny story when he brings his gf home from college--believe me, I know. GL on a quick repair.

hope everything works out.. Geico must be pretty good if you don't even have to pay a deductible... good luck!

I don't know if this applies to all the states, but here in Massachusetts, glass is covered under the optional "Comprehensive" coverage. Glass replacement does not require a deductible unless you specifically request glass deductible to save a few dollars on the premium.
