Rumbled! Normally I don't approve of cross posting across forums, but thought it worth a punt, particularly as this place has a wider geographical cross section. I too thought that the SZL was an old issue... and in any case doesn't it cause the dash to light up like a Christmas tree? The worrying thing about my car was that is showed no faults at all, just an inability to go round corners.

I will report back once I've spoken with the service manager tomorrow. If it's a known/obvious fix then fine, and hopefully I'll have the car back pronto. If it seems more involved then I'll be tempted to reject the car rather than get into a lengthy diagnosis process.

Ya let us know how it goes... hope its somthing simple...

Dealer cannot find anything so is escalating to BMW UK. I've supplied the service personnel with three separate links to messages on various forums from people who have experienced the same problem on E60s.

The dealer is actually being pretty good about it: they have agreed that if they cannot find and fix a specific issue then I can have a replacement car or else go back to the M6. So we'll see what happens...

Yours is the only LCI with the problem on the forums?

From what I can tell, yes. Which seems to point towards a common component between LCI and pre-LCI cars.

So unlikely to be a fault with the new-fangled electrically-assisted steering. And, TBH, not a common issue at all.

If it were a common issue I'd suggest there would have been the odd injury as a result (I came close!). Happily it seems to be rare enough that I've only seen three separate postings that are identical to my experience of the power assistance cutting out.

Is there any documentation about how the PAS has changed on the LCI cars?

Read again.

Not JUST LCI.

And not (so far) common [even in pre-LCI].

I know its not just the LCI,
LCI are ment to have fix all or most bugs and folts.
what I it mean is LCI with something wrong already and I know that this is not common and very rare.

We don't know if this is a "bug". We don't know if it's common.

NO new release of ANY car is problem-free and glitches ranging from one-offs to those requiring a recall just.... happen.
