My new 2010 E61 Finally was Delivered

Unfortunately, it not just a software issue. The software is new, but so is the hardware.
The iDrive in the 2010s has a Hard Disk that stores a lot of stuff, I'm not sure all of the details, but the HD has all the navigation information. I did not get a DVD with my car, I guess an updates gets flashed at the dealers, or perhaps owner's get new DVDs to update their systems. Time will tell. The HD can also hold mp3 etc. files, about 30 gb or so, but I use a 120 gb iPod for my music. The latter seems easier to me.
The CPU is much faster, BMW did not lay out the specs but I can scroll to the bottom of my 300 or so Playlists on the iPod in seconds vs. a limit of 256 and minutes to scroll in my 2006.
The software is much more sophisticated - I doubt it would even run on the old CPU - have you looked at the 3D images? They are quite spectacular!
In a nutshell, one cannot upgrade but via a new 3 or 5 with navigation, or a 7.
