sorry to hear about this, I'd open a file with cops. just in case.
For some reason the Cops in Northern Ireland took it apon themselves to only go to car accidents or create files where there has been a person injured

Screw being all PC - it was her! I'll incriminate people who don't respect others' property all day. And when I'm done, I'll do it some more all night Its just like people bumping into bumpers in NYC - its ridiculous! And I wanna chase down and beat with club every single one of them that I see - even when they do it to other people's cars...

But seriously, I'd just test drive the car - take it on a road where there is a wall at least on one side, roll down the windows on the side closer to the wall, turn off the music/radio and listen to what sounds your car makes - especially when coasting. Make sure that the handbrake is properly adjusted/calibrated - our handbrakes are by-wire, which means that they can require some "programming". Since the bumper is fine, PDC sensors work and there's no problems with the trunk, I sincerely doubt there's a problem - these cars are pretty solid. Just avoid this kind of occurences in the future, if at all possible
I agree, I once saw a women in spain actually push another car using hers to get into a space I could not believe it! She was driving a rust bucket and the car she was shoving was a pretty new looking merc! Total disgrace...

I will do as you advice and hopefully all will be well.

Cheers for the advice.

I'm sure your local insurance rules differ. But, in the US, no matter what, I always get a police report and file an insurance claim. It may not be possible to get a police report in your situation, but you can contact the insurance company. It may not be the case where you live, but in my experience a lot of people say they'll "take care of it" and ask that you not get police/insurance companies involved. Then they have a sudden lapse of memory when you show up with the repair bill, and claim they had nothing to do with it. Without documentation, you're screwed.

...another 2 cents worth....

My wife's car (2003 525) got bumped in a parking lot and we didn't notice the bumper was slightly misaligned until somewhat later. Upshot was that the attachment points where the plastic bumper meets the frame were crushed (as they are designed to do) and we needed $900 worth of repairs. Not amusing.... Check it well while everyone's memory remains fresh.

Haha death would come very soon after in Arizona. one of my co-workers actually set their soda on my roof and sat on my hood one time and i threw it at his tahoe. he then decided he wanted to get his ass whooped for it, and appologize the next day to keep his job

if your car has moved 1ft during the impact then that sounds to me like a fairly hefty shunt!

Its worth considering that the bodyshop/BMW may charge a labour rate to have a look at it, but sometimes not if they think they will get work out of it.

Either way IMO I would defo get it checked out and go through the insurance company

Good luck

+1 the bumpers are designed to take minor impact and protect safety related systems. But some attachment points may have been "sacrificed" in the collision but not readily visible as they are hidden by the external bumper. Also, I presume your transmission was out of gear and brakes on - if not they should be checked - especially if the car was moved by the impact.
