Last night my iDrive died again. Previously, BMW upgraded my software from v25 to v27 in an effort to fix the problem. Now its back to the drawing board.

This has also happened to me. I have an appointment to take it in on 11/20. Please report if there is a fix.

I heard that CIP 27.02 maybe fix this issue, someone have upgraded to this new release?
He also stated that apparently the last upgrade on my car wasn't completed properly, and he cited that as another possible root cause.
At least I got a free bluetooth retrofit out of it for my troubles!
My car had the same problem too after an upgrade 4 months ago to Progman 25. The first time happened while running errands and I just happened to be a few miles from the dealer, so I took it in ASAP so they'd see the blank screen for themselves. They immediately took the car in and ran diagnostics. They reported that for some unknown reason, the radio wasn't communicating properly with the harddrive/iDrive and was thus emitting fault signals which caused the iDrive screen to stay blank. They re-flashed the car with the same Progman version hoping it would clear and they sent me home, telling me to wait for the car to enter sleep mode so the car can reset itself if the blank screen pops up again. Since then, it's happened about 10 times, and so today on the way to the dealer for a scheduled oil change, of all things ... the screen went blank (on startup). I left the car idling at the service drop-off so the techs can verify the problem was factual. I'll know by Friday if the problem has been (finally) fixed. I, too, will report my findings.
