My Ride: E60 530d Sport - Carbon Black, Black Dakota Leather, Media Pack (satnav, bluetooth, CD changer), heated font seats, through load
Filled up today. Just under 37 MPG.
Not likely to get that over a whole tank once I start to enjoy the performance more.

Hey BB530D, glad to hear you are enjoing your car. I have done about 5000 miles so far and of course with the Schnitzer ECU I get about 16% more power and 10% more torque as well.
Up here at 6000 feet above sea level I really do leave a lot of the normally aspirated petrol cars weeping. 530i is easy meat and the 545's really get a huge fright once they see the label on the back of the car!!
Have fun (safely)

6000 feet. Hmmm. I presume that the ECU is programmed to limit boost pressure. That is, with lower outside pressure, the turbo will simply spin a bit faster than at sea level or the wastegate operates not as much, but still create the same amount of boost.
Meanwhile the normally aspirated "competition" are suffering the lower pressures. Less pressure = less oxygen = less bang and LESS POWER.

Yeah BB530D you've got it. Depending on the vehicle there is a loss of about 20% up here compared to sea level. The turbo pretty much takes of that.
The normally aspirated cars can only do what they can to alter mixture and timing at this altitude to compensate but can do nothing about lack of air!!
Turbo diesels are nowhere nearly as popular here as they are in Europe so 9/10 the car you pull up to at the light will be a petrol operated car. Sometimes they will also have a turbo like the Volvos, Merc compressors etc. which also overcome the altitude to a degree.
But still lots of opportunity to have fun and still get 600km to a tank with brisk suburban driving.
