Checked the oil level today and saw that the engine lost some oil. I have the ticking noise and this is an N52 engine. Now, the bad news is: the car is out of warranty I need to find a BMW NA rep that I can email regarding this issue before I take the car to any dealer. Dealers are only going to be interested in making money, so I want to try and get some kind of assurance that this, no doubt, SERIOUSLY expensive issue doesn't get neglected by BMW NA.

I will appreciate any pointers and help with this, guys. But most importantly, I need to find out an email address for someone at BMW NA, who I can speak to about this, who is able to make decisions.

My car's a 2006 with about 65k miles on the clock, btw. The ticking noise has been present as long as I can remember, but the loss of oil has been developing in only the last 5-6k miles. I originally blamed it on a faulty sensor, but it doesn't look like it, as the sensor seems to be showing the right level.

I don't know for sure, but there was a SIB for the ticking in the N52...it might even be covered past warranty...as for the oil leak...I would do a BlackStone oil analysis. This could help you pin-point the problem.

Yet I knew the lifter issue was covered under warranty , but I did not know if they would cover it ( other than CPO) if the car was out side of that period. The lifter issue on a N52 is fairly wide known problem by most dealers.

worth a shot....You can always ask up front if NA would cover it since it has a TSB.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll definitely try to secure the BMW NA's good will prior to submitting my car to any dealers - don't want to end up with my engine in pieces and a bill I was not told about, if you know what I mean.

From what I see, I cannot email BMW NA - I have to call. Is this a fact? My schedule is not standard and I simply have no energy to make calls that can stretch out for many hours in the mornings...

And yes, Marc, I've got the Blackstone kit at home - gonna do the analysis this week probably. Thanks again for pointing me in their direction.

I'd just call them , you will end up with a case worker or the "regional" rep
