hey,Maybe your car was built on a Friday??LOL
Give BMW another chance, in my opinion, as they have a pretty good record.

Did you buy the car from new? Although you babied it as I do mine, the person who owned it before may have absolutely thrashed the shit out of it, hence your problems.

At the end of the day its your choice and the important thing is youhave to be happy and feel safe that you have a reliable car.

Good luck in your search and decisions

BMWs out of warranty are very expensive to maintain correctly and VERY EXPENSIVE when they break.

Maybe your next car should be "new" and in your price range so as to have a manufacture's warranty.

My '04 530i is in need of some serious repairs. Just found out from 2 different mechanics that my cylinder head is CRACKED!!! Didn't drive it like a retard, regular maintenance, babied, etc. I'm getting oil in my coolant overflow tank. Took the car to a respected engine specialist (the dealer wanted $7800!!!). Long story short, in 2 weeks and about $4000 later I'll have the POS back on the road, only to wait for another breakdown. I don't trust this car to take the family down south to Florida anymore. I can't/won't trade it in b/c I'll get raped on the depreciation. BTW I'm out of warranty... 94,000 km. This is my last BMW. They're so overrated!! My next car will be either Acura or Lexus.
Are you the original owner? Was the car properly maintained since new? Or

Did you get a great deal on a used 530 that somebody whaled the piss out of and dumped on you?

If you can't afford at least a CPO BMW from dealer, that would cover that motor damage, you can't afford a BMW. Enjoy your next Camry...

You've just articulated why I like to lease -- I stay within the warranty.

Wow, look at you Mr. I have a 545. You know there are a lot of enthusiasts that not necessary can afford one of the newer BMW?s but still drive one, whether it?s an older one or not because they just love driving experience that these machines deliver. If you want to judge people like that for whatever reason then maybe you shouldn?t be here.

Hey, it's cool man. Just to be safe, you should skip luxury as a whole and stick straight to reliability. I see a Ford Pinto on eBay. It's got a sport package with an intercooler..or maybe it's a lynched raccoon. I dunno.
Reliability? Pinto Flambe anyone? (if you dont know what that is, google it)

Thats a little rough IMO, but there is a point there. BMW's are expensive to maintain, so if you don't have any warranty coverage, it may be wise to be able to do some of the work yourself.

I'm curious to know what the cause was, because heads really don't just "crack" in "stock" cars. Its usually from (1) excessive overheating, (2) cold weather with wrong/no/incorrect antifreeze, (3) incorrect installation of head and/or problem with gasket, or (4) poor engine maintenance, such as infrequent oil changes, old plugs, low grade fuel, causing one cylinder head to run hot/detonate/score the wall, etc.

Anyway, bummer situation. Hope things work out for you. GL

Sorry to hear bro, but I can tell you that acuras aren't problem free either. My good friend has a tsx that he babies and since buying it new he has had to have everything under the sun replaced on it luckily all under warranty. But he had his engine replaced under warranty at 100000 km also at 25000 km is entire dash died minus the gauges and they wanted to charge him for that I itially saying that lights are not covered. No brand will go with no issues I'm sorry to hear that maybe you got a lemon Bmw and it's too bad that you are giving upon them. GL on your next car
