My e60 is two years old today
Two years and 21,000 miles on my e60 without any "real" problems. The car runs better than the day I bought it. In November 2003, I called BMW dealers all over Calif. looking for a 545i w/6-speed. Found mine in Irvine, rented a car and drove down to buy it. It was difficult finding a 6-speed at that time, BMW figured the first buyers wanted automatics. My only problems have been minor software issues and cracks in the headlight brackets. These problems were solved quickly. I have never had any of the noise problems - doors, back seats - that others have mentioned. My e60 is rock solid. I don't care about some stuff. That the clock doesn't automatically adjust for daylight savings time is of no interest to me.
The Good - engine and transmisson are a flawless combination. I get decent mileage and have all the power I can use - and it is great fun. Sports package - including the seats - are a perfect combination of performance and comfort. Logic 7 was worth it and Sirius is nice to have. I can't help it - I love the Universal Garage Door Opener. The Adaptive Xenon Headlights are outstanding. Brakes are also fantastic. I have mixed feeling on the Active Steering, I would like it better with less "assist". That said, the quick, tight turning ability is fabulous for a car this size.
The Bad - The runflats were harsh in my opinion, I changed them out for Michelin Pilot Sports AS and am very satisfied. If my rain sensors adjust speed, I sure can't tell. Lawyer screen is minor issue to me.
The Ugly - For me it is PDC, I can't stand it and it cost $700 when I got my car. If I could activate it myself, through idrive, it wouldn't be ugly - just bad. It comes on every time you put the car in reverse, yet in two years I have used it three times.
Bottom line for me, I am satisfied with my purchase - I would buy another e60 tomorrow if need be. Time will tell if this is the best BMW I have ever owned, it is beginning to look that way.

Strange but i find the pdc to be very helpfull.I turn it on when going in narrow(and i mean really narrow) roads and intersections. You definitely need pdc from where i come from
Only 21.000 miles in two years ???
Nice to hear that you like your car even after two years... I do now have non run flat tires on our car, and it's like another car after the tire change!

I'm at a year and a half, and it's definitely my favorite car. I was VERY disappointed by not getting Bluetooth, but the CPT9000 I bought from Mr. Belk is flawless (I just have a favorite button on my Treo 650 that forwards to that phone when I'm in the car), and I've had it exactly a year.
I may upgrade to a 550, but I've always been of the mindset that more than 6 cylinders is a waste. I keep waffling on that.
I hope the next year is just as enjoyable!

I bought mine in Jan 2004, and it's just 1 year and 9 months now with 38K miles on it.
When I bought mine, I had to commute 90 miles a day which explained why the mile goes so high.
Problem with noise in speakers, CD always got back to track 01, bug here and there, and now things seem to be OK. Except driving in D mode is which upshifts too early. Driving at 35mph, transmission already in 5th gear
At 45mph, it's in 6th gear, and I have CIP 18.1 loaded. I don't like it.
