Sorry, more info as requested. Mine is 2005 523i SE (petrol). It took way in excess of 10 mins maybe a little over 15 this morning at least 5 of which where driving and not just ticking over. Just seems much longer than my Vectra. Cold air still coming out of the vents despite dial being set to maximum. Seat is fine but blowers cold.

Have you checked your i-Drive settings for the blowers? This is a little annoying but you can change the blowers to cold/warm/hot...

Good shout! I have checked but I havent turned them to maximum. I think I will do that tonight and see how they are tomorrow.

It depends on the outside temp. Here in Sweden it takes about 8 min when it's -7 Celsius out side and maybe it's a bit warmer Pittsburgh than in Sweden... You know, we have icebears

Talking of diesels being slow in heating (which as stated above is common sense) some manufacturers see it appropriate to fit auxilliary diesel heaters to some cars (e.g. my wife's Galaxy) that heat the engine coolant so that the engine warms up quicker (and heats the occupants quicker as well).
So much for better economy of diesels!

Just another thing to add,
How strong does the air blow in the rear of your guys cars? Mines usually close to nothing, I don't see anything in the climate menu about the rear, should i use different vent settings?

It was cold this morning and I had the engine running for at least 5 minutes before driving off. With little traffic I was at my destination in 10 - 12 minutes driving time. So the engine was running for at least 15 minutes and I was still shivering.
(
Maybe I ought to put some clothes on tomorrow morning.)

My car has been sitting outside my garage at night the past few weeks and it really does warm up very quickly -- I guess the CWP is paying off now since the heated seats and wheel really help out while you're waiting for the heat to come on...
