My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Hi all, so the real quick dirt of what's going on. Tonight when I went to start my 2004 E60 (3 month old battery) everything died after half a crank. As of right now I have absolutely no electrical power to the car - nadda, zip, zilch, nothing. Let me explain the details that lead up prior to the incident. Approaching the car I was able to unlock it as normal. I entered the car and everything seemed to work fine. Lights were on, and when I inserted the key I got the normal chime, the radio turned on, and I turned the key to start the car up. The car cranked not even one full crank. In fact it was more like half a crank when the best I can describe is the entire just turned off. I mean everything... Nothing works - NOTHING. It's as if I blew a main fuse/bus. I really haven't had time to look at the battery yet. However these symptoms doesn't really seem battery related, but then again it could be. I do have a spare battery I'm going to throw in there tomorrow. But I'm just wondering if anyone has heard or experienced anything like this.

I had same problem, had to replace my battery because it was straight up DEAD. Best to either try to charge it up or buy a new battery for it. Does your car still have warranty because it can also be that something is draining your battery because thats what happened to me.

Jay,
I'm not sure there is a main fuse for the e60. On the e46 there was a main fuse type of devise that activate after an accident that was within about 1' of battery. Put a volt meter on the battery and see if that is the issue. I have also had a battery short circuit internally such that you don't get any voltage. I would doubt this would be the case if you only got half a crank.
So when you say there is no power you don't even get overhead lights in the car?

Are your connections to the battery tight?
If I was in your shoes I would disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. Then try to start it again.
If that doesnt work try jump starting it to see if you can turn the engine.

Hey all, I'm home now and found the problem. Unfortunately when I was leaving for dinner I didn't have time to look, nor did I want to make it an issue since it was suppose to be a nice night out. So I posted my question once we arrived at my destination... However, once we got home it really didn't take much to diagnose the problem. See when I was trying to remove the boot cover for the battery all the lights came back on. Bingo! Must be the connection, and the connection it was. Sorry for the knee jerk reaction, but I thought something was seriously wrong. Thanks for all the replies!
