Whatever you do, make sure you get the crap off ASAP. My e39 got bombed by a gull on the way to the airport and I didn't have time to clean it off until about a week later. Big mistake! The caustic stuff pitted the clear coat and I had to polish it multiple times. The area is still a bit rough. I use Rejex now, but I am not sure how well it works since I don't let crap stay on the paint long.

I have Silver Gray and I don't get a lot of bird poo.

I also carry a bottle of Meguiar's Quick Detail and a microfiber cloth in a ziploc bag "in case shit". No pun intended.

I HAVE A CAR COVER and when it's on, the birds ignore it. They sit there, waiting for me to uncover it before they launch their awful attack.

Reminds me of another animal problem:

Do you use rejex? If so, maybe the birds just try to hit the ants that are crawling on your hood.

I apologize for taking pleasure in your sorrow, but that was a really entertaining tale you have provided.
It was well written as well as thought provoking!
I have a possible solution. Here in NYC where ever pigeons are a problem, people erect a plastic owl and that seems to scare them away. You might try propping one next to the windshield or perhaps using one as a hood ornament.
Best wishes

i really feel your pain. you should always have cloth and water handy. clean it out as soon as it hits.
the other day i had my roof open enjoying the sun, views of hot chicks in tank tops and everything. this seagull must have had a bad lunch, it drop a huge blop of diarreah on the top of my windshield (near the rear mirror) missing my head by a few inches. the 'white/gray' splash is so huge that nearly covered half my palm! I screamed so loud that this chick on blades turned to look at me.
OK she's cute but its not her that i yelled at.
though i dont mind her attention.
