In most Europen countries the cars will age one year next Sunday!
That is a fact, do to the fact, that my car is registred the 8th of July 2005,
therefore in 2006, it will be a car from the past year.

Even though BMW does make changes and improvements to their cars all the time,
the genuine E60 Model Year starts in September when the factory lounches
their new MY.

I also know that the US starts their next MY already in the spring, which I do not
understand at all, how can a fresh MY '06 be a MY '07 in March???
It is a marketing jippo or trick in my European eyes.

I'm also aware of that the UK has its own system with the registration plats,
but how it exactly works, I do not know.

I also hope to get comments on this from other EU countries, Australia, South-America,
Africa...

A Happy and Succesful New Year 2006 to everyone

Generally in the US, model years change in September. There are often exceptions with new models that are introduced early. For example, the new MB S-Class will be introduced here in February as a MY07.

Also, due to annual emission and mileage certification requirements, some manufacturers will change the model year when a mid-year engine replacement occurs, rather than having to pass two certification tests for the same model year. That's why, in the US, BMW called the newly engined 525 and 530 MY06s when they were introduced last spring. They kept the 545 as a MY05 until September when the "real" model year change occured.

In the UK plates change twice a year now and have done for the last few years. August and March I think. This was reacting to pressure from dealers I think who wanted to 'flatten' their financial profiles a little.
