any ideas? I guess there could be several possibilities, but just wanted to see if any others had a similar experience and what was the outcome. I have a 2008 550i. Just recently I noticed that when the car is idling while in gear at a stop light, there are slight vibrations and sometimes noticeable shakes...almost as if the engine is about to cut off. However, the RPM needle is pretty steady, wiggles a little, but not much.

I just had that issue on mine. Is your check engine soon light on? Mine turned out to be a bad ignition coil on one of the cylinders.

No CEL or any other indicators.

Update on the situation...

Here is what is noted on the service that was performed:
"Performed vehicle test, no relevant faults, ran the st plan B1214_NGMINH_I-MINIMUM valve lift adjustment. Value of valves was .10, should be .3 - .8mm."

"Adjusted minimum clearance to .8mm. Vibration is gone, no other concerns."
I still feel a vibration when idling at a stop, although when I turn on the climate control, the vibration goes away. Any ideas? Anything of concern? I'm not sure if this is a characteristic of the engine/vehicle, or something I should be concerned of.

May need to be reprogrammed. Many of us have had this issue.

*What* needs to be reprogrammed? I was told by the SA that an ECU flash had been done to "correct" the issue. Is there a specific program update that I can reference?

I frankly don't remember, but your SA certainly should know about how to permanently solve it. This problem is common and solvable through the ECU. Your vehicle needs be in the shop for hours to be done successfully. I imagine if you search around here under "rough idle" the answer to your question should be easy to find.

mine does the same and my light came on. i went to autozone for them to read and got a diagnostic code of p1553, though when i turned the car back on, the code was cleared.

i'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow, will they be able to review the history of codes even though the light is not on anymore?

thanks, i'll do some more searching. i've seen some "rough idle" posts for other 5-series makes, but don't think any specifically for 550.
