I have a 04 545SMG . It was the first SMG to be deliverd to US so its an early build. My car has GPS but no NAV ( it wasnt ready for the build)

I live in NYC and want to know if my radio will recv Sirrius radio thru the GPS if I pay the subscription fee or do I have to change my radio.

Thanks

I think in 04 the siruius ready set up was a 75$ option. Look on the window sticker if you have it. If not search this site - I'm sure I've read the answer to this before. Or just wait for iceman to reply.

just did the search myself becasue i am bored. No idea how to link it but just type satellite radio into the search and you will get all of the info you need. The answer is if you have sat prep you can get sirrius - even with nav. just need a software update. But no sat prep no dice from what I read. If you do not have your sticker you can call the dealer and chack the VIN.

Ya earlier cars you had to pay for Sat Radio Prep which was $75. I think it was included only as of 2006 cars... not even 2005.

I checked my docs and I see that I didn't pay the 75.00 option fee. I have to call the dealer to see whats involved. I looked at the Sirius website and activation is done remotely so that part is easy.

I believe the prep was to add the wiring. I believe there is still a module that needs to be added, which was a $500 or so option in order to have satelite radio. Let us know what you find out.

I payed for the prep but have not done the satelite yet. I think about everytime I get poor radio reception - which is daily.

bobi:
I also have any early build date - Sept. 2003. I paid the $75 for the factory wiring = prep. Then my dealer installed the receiving unit in my trunk, about $500. I really enjoy the sat. radio, well worth it for me.

I have a 04' 530i and was wondering the same thing. You can call your dealer and give them the last 8 digits of your vin and they will tell you if your car is pre-wired for satellite radio. Also, if you use the i-drive entertainment menu and spot a "SAT" option next to your FM,AM,WB,CD options than it is safe to say you do have it pre-wired. Here is the bad news that I got, if the car is not pre-wired for satellite than there is not set-up available currently with the manufacture to get satellite radio. One can always get an aftermarket unit, but it will not be intergrated with idrive. I am hoping BMW will come out with a set-up in the near future for satellite wiring to be adding post purchase. Keep us posted regarding your situation.

Joe from San Diego.

Even if the car is pre-wired, you will not see the "SAT" option in iDrive unless the system is already installed and programmed...
