I bought 10 months ago my first bmw 545 , and my front bumper paint is peeling off , which I don't think that's the original factory paint cause I noticed some spots are flaking off , and now got much worse. what should I do about this? , will my pace bmw dealer fix this problem? since they sold the car to me I think they are responsible cause they cpo'ed it.

The first place I would go is to the dealer who sold you the car and demand that the dealer fix it.

I would approach BMW NA only if the dealer stiff-arms you.

I had the same thing happen to my front bumper. The paint just started to flake off after a few months. I went directly to the sales manager and he had the shop fix it the same day and deliver the car back to me the same night after the dealer was closed.

My lacquer is also peeling off. I was in warranty when I first noticed this, but the BMW bodyshop pointed out that at some point my front bumper had been repainted on one side, so not a warranty job. Car not new to me so had to go with his assessment, although you could see the spray lines when he pointed them out so seemed fair. Still haven't got round to having this done mind.....

Yep mine too. 535d June 2007 build and I have had it from new so I know it has not been repaired since I took delivery. I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago on one side of bumper cover and today the other side has peeled. It looks as if something might have been split on it (brake fluid from the last service and change of fluid?) but then again maybe it had grease on it from the hangers when it was first painted. Will talk to the supplying dealer when I get time.

Did you buy your car used or new?

If it was CPO's (i.e. used), it is most likely that the front bumper has been repainted. They do this all the time to take out the small nicks and scratches on the bumpers of used cars. A quick and dirty job is called "scuff and shoot" because the scuff up (i.e. sand it, and then shoot (paint) it.). They have guys that go from dealer to dealer doing this on the used cars.

It is likely that yours had this done. This happened to me on my first CPO's car and they fixed it. My 2007 550 is a CPO'd car and I just noticed the same thing on my rear bumper as well....

I bought my car CPO'ed , When I look at the front bumper, its spotless. I don't see any damage from road debris . How to ensure that it has not been repainted?
