Happened this morning!!! A piece of metal fell out a semi and hit my car causing the moonroof to shatterand scratch up my paint. I had to chase the truck for 2 miles and force him to pull over. Police came and took a report but said nothing he could do about it, because I couldn't prove it came off his truck. STUPID COP!!!! Look at the back of the truck all this junk that is hanging out of it. I explained that to the cop and he said "how am I so sure it didn't fly over his truck and hit your car?" Something that would shatter my moonroof like that would have to be pretty damn heavy and something that heavy wouldn't fly that high and that far over his truck and land on my moonroof. The truck just got off scott free, didn't even get a ticket for not fully covering the junk he was transporting. My insurance is covering my car but I gotta pay my deductible, I still thinks its unfair I gotta pay for it, I want to take this driver to court to cover my deductible.

Holy carp! I'm glad you didn't have the sunroof open or someone could have seriously gotten hurt! I'm sorry for the damage!

What freeway were you driving on? 91?

Hard to imagine that the truck driver wasn't ticketed for no tarp. Damn shame!

He had a tarp just wasn't big enough to fit the entire truck..

I would consider one of two options.

Number one, write the trucking company and ask them to forward your letter to their insurer. Knowing trucking companies, however, they will probably throw it away.

Secondly, as you suggested, file a small claims case. It will take some of your time, but you can handle it yourself, and my guess is that they will pay your deductible just to avoid sending someone to have to handle it.

I'm sorry to see what happened. I know its hard to fathom right now, but you should truly count your blessings it didnt come through the windshield. I have seen many cases where people were killed in similar ways.

Good luck to you, and let me know if you want/need to chat about it.

You did a good job with your camera, by the way.

I had a hubcap fly off of a taxi cab, put three huge dents in my hood and almost cracked my windshield in a million pieces. I chase the guy down, he had no license and what and threated to kill me because of how I was questioning him. I went to a police station and the cop tells me that there was nothing that I could do. My dad answered him, if my son got killed then what? Exactlyy...its BS!!!
