It happened at a friends house who lives in the country and unfortunatelt has no garage.

I have a garage at my house but it's not wide enough for me to drive into, even with mirrors folded up...I think they thought everybody in the world would drive a mini when they designed the house 25 years ago!
You are absolutely right. Parking plots are too small. I live in a 25 years old hause and I am forced to rent a second much bigger plot to park the BMW, in mine I am keeping the Mini as you said.

Not good, man. Good that you're able to have a laugh about it though.

Reminds me of the time my uncle's 2 St. Bernard pups were teething and found the wing mirrors on my aunt's MG-F to be the right height (and taste) for them. We found them all munched up and hanging from the car by the electric mirror wiring!

I also live in a house in the country near Gatwick and I would suggest it was rabbits (look at the teeth marks)

Little fcukers get everywhere and if they can, will eat anything.

It's huge! It's enormous!, It's got huge...fangs!
May I suggest the Holy Hand Grenade?

Sorry. Had to.

I hope all works out well for you. It's seems silly for them not to give you back your bumper...you own it!!

So far all I know is the price they have quoted for the repair is based upon my bumper being returned to BMW. There is a surcharge if I want to keep the old one and the bodyshop is trying to find out what that surcharge is. This seems strange to me, it's not like I'm exchanging/partex'ing my bumper, they surely can't have any use for it or think about repairing it and reusing it otherwise why can't my bodyshop repair it. There was a mention too that BMW may not even allow me to keep it for a surcharge with it being from an M-car, perhaps they don't want me selling it on ebay to cover the costs of my insurance excess  or keep the number of look-a-likes down?

I'll have to wait and see, but then the other side of the argument is that shouldn't any surcharge to keep the bumper be included in the quote that the insurers pay? By law does the damaged bumper belong to the insurers if they pay out on this claim?

I've NEVER heard of anybody refusing to let you keep old parts unless the part being replaced was faulty and being swapped out FOC under warranty, in which case they want the part back for diagnostics, etc which is more than fair.

Perhaps BMW just want the bumper back to put in their hall of fame for strange damage
