Seriously... what is the appeal with folding mirrors? I had them on my Audi S4 and used them a couple of times, but rather pointless if you ask me. When i picked up my S4 I thought, 'wow, these folding mirrors are pretty cool', but the novelty wore off rather quickly. Sorry.... I just don't get it.

From experience, I know that on a UK E90 (maybe the same for an E60??) with the electric fold mirror option, they will auto fold shut if you hold down the remote button on the key for a couple of seconds longer when locking the car. ), I told the sales Guy how it worked, but nothing happened. He took the key and some tech guy re-programed it, and then I had folding mirrors on locking. 
I think it's a great feature which I use all the time. In the UK, we have far too small parking spaces, and idiots with shopping trolleys ( carts, for my friends the other side of the pond )

my c class doesn't have it. Didn't order it with it.
but the module is quite cheap, I can basically take it from a CLK, E, SLK, etc. haha
M/Bs have most of the "luxury" equipment, and details, but BMWs are different. I love my e60!

Option number 430 automatically dimmed rear view mirrors (in EU).
What I miss more is that the right hand side outside mirror should
automatically show lower when parking.

Mine do fold but it's a button you have to press and I always forget. It would be fabulous if they folded automatically upon locking. Cant think of a good reason why BMW doesnt allow US cars to do this. And yes, they unfold automatically at a certain speed if you should forget for some reason.

my car has them, infact most cars after 1990 in ASIA have folding mirrors , my 1992 COROLLA had it...so does my 2001 COROLLA lol its really meant for tight space parking which BMW and other foreign manufactures think is not needed for US. Funny my 1998 LS 400 (ok i was weird back then and bought a grandpa car when i was 20 lol ) had folding mirrors but the similar model in US did not......

Also, we should use more appropriate terminology cause it seems like people are getting confused. There's power-fold and auto-fold. Power-fold is where we push a button and it folds and auto-fold is where the mirrors automatically fold either because the ignition is turned off or using the remote. I think most cars in the US, aside from the LCI models which I'm not sure about, have the power-fold feature and not the auto-fold. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I would like to have the auto-fold feature as well if it's possible for US dealers to program it that way. Anyone know?
