My Ride: 2005 BMW 545i, Billy Boat w/ y-resonator removed.
Default

I recently picked up a 2005 BMW 545. I have had all the windows tinted and then started on the performance / sound of the car.

Here is link to a video with a Billy Boat exhaust installed along with removal of the y-resonator - replaced it with a striaght pipe y.

The sound in the car is good; actually better after I removed the resonator. I get a drone at 50 mph, but it seems to be diminishing a little as the pipes carbon up from use. At 60 mph you can hear it a little more then stock and above that it's barely there.

Let me know what you think.

Ha, that's funny. When I came home with the BMW the neighbors all stopped by - 'yeah, you finally got a respectible car', 'nice to see you have something that doesn't set off car alarms'.... I think I just confirmed thier worst fears regarding me!

They must be used to it by now. Two Mustangs both with 2-chamber Flowmasters. One with long tube headers, off-road h-pipe, and a Vortech supercharger. Loud is one way to put it. A Suzuki GSXR 1000 with a D&D exhaust, and a Factory Five Racing MkIII (think '65 AC Cobra) with barely muffled side pipes on a 393w motor. That one makes the ground shake. See these -
and here is one from when I finished the car

I try to idle out and idle into the nieghborhood as best possible, but sometimes...

Thanks for the comments! I'll be looking around here for more info on other upgrades to the 545. Thanks.

Sounds good. I have the Magnaflow muffler and was thinking about removing the resonator. That Cobra sounds sick.
