Well,

For all of you folks who has an erractif idle + clicking noise under slow take off + unstable idle under cold start and have had your valtronic cam changed, you are in the same situation as I am. Today, my SA called me and told me that BMW NA authorized a new entire Motor to be installed in my car. The car has 30kmiles.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks

The click is very light, everyone who tried my car were not aware of the click until I did mention about it...

I have to keep an eye out for this. I think I have erratic idle but not sure. Sometimes my car will surge very slightly when driving in parking lots really slow. This has happened twice.

Another issue I have is in first gear when I am on the brakes just so slightly when going below 3mph, the car will studder. Is this something related?

Weird! The only noticeable throttle change I have is about 90 seconds after cold start in the morning.
About two blocks from my house, I get a hesitation/slight dive in rpm and it recovers instantly and goes along fine. I always assume it is the choke shutting off. Let's hope that's all I endure. (15.5K and counting)

Wow! You too? I just got mine back after having the dealer confirm scoring in all right side cylinders, causing loud chattering noise during acceleration especially when cold. It was starting to sound like a diesel. Glad BMW is stepping up on this situation and doing the right thing. Best of luck..

I have the 550...just 2000miles but the rough idle on cold starts makes it feel like two cylinders are miss firing. BMW told me this is normal but I have had MANY cars (well over 30) and I have never experienced this kind of lack of refinement in cold starts.

Are they missing something in the design, or is there a fault that they dont want to deal with?

My new 550i has the same problem but it clears up in 5-10 seconds tho it still isn't real smooth anytime while cold. It's now in the dealer shop where two BMW s/w engineers are trying out new software for the same problem on mine and another car. Supposed to have it reprogrammed today and will tell you if it worked.

Good going! I wish they'd given me a new engine too, after so many trip to the dealer trying to get my engine fixed.

Do you think it would be too much to ask for the 4.8L engine instead?

P.S. No engine should idle roughly or hesitate during inital take off. It's not normal for a $50K+ car to idle rougher than a $8K Kia Rio (after rebate and incentives, but before tax). I know becouse my employee just bought one.

BMW replaced my engine this past January for some of your same reasons. Then they had to change the rear end in May! That was the final big thing before I got rid of it and have ordered a 550. I certainly hope I am not going to have the same problems all over again! I am sorry to hear about your troubles but it seems as if these engines are either great or born to make trouble for the owner! I will say after the engine replacement none of the old problems came back for the 8 months I had the car. BMW should have done the right thing and taken the car back after the 3rd problem.

Good luck!
