I have had my car four years next week. I have to decide if I am going to keep it and get the extended warranty or move on. I can't keep it without coverage, could get very expensive with all the gizmos. Outside of switching out the run flats to PS 2's I haven't changed anything. Early on I had the FTM, gas cap, steering warnings - with software updates all my problems went away. The last 3 years have been trouble free. I did bend a rim on a pothole, could have happened to any car. It runs great, the 6-speed manual is a blast, there are not any rattles or problems. Everything is working like it is supposed to. The trade in on a new BMW isn't really worth it, $27,500. I am thinking I will get the warranty & hang with you guys for a couple more years. It must be one of the earliest E60's out there, I could hang for a couple more years - no problem.

I think keeping it sounds right given that it has been trouble free ,you could one of the 1st to get the the f10

I am in a similar situation with 4 years coming in February. My new 550 should be here in another week or so but I have had a great experience w/ my 545. In fact the wife has been saying how much she loves to drive it, so we may actually keep and buy the extended warranty. Two E60's, not a smart financial decision but the 545 is paid for so the only cost is insurance, gas and the extended warranty. And it will keep my wife from driving my new baby!

My 545 is over 3 years old and I did list it up for sale on the classified , working a deal on a Porsche 911.
I got a couple of nibbles then the more I drove it I desided to keep it a while longer.
It has been trouble free and runs strong, Porsche is expecting a facelift in 09 they say with some technical upgrades, but finding out the skinny on Porsche is tough, like Top Secret.
Resale isn't strong on 545's it's paid for and is equiped just as I would order a new one.
A sports car would be a nice toy, but a sports sedan like the 545 ain't no chopped liver.

Like what most is saying, I'm keeping mine. With no major trouble, it's a good sign.
She's a 02/04 built, and still drives like new, or even better with the SB .

Also, why did you not take advantage of the free replacement of your Dunlop Run Flats under the TSB, assuming they exhibited the typical wear pattern?

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
I'd like to hear about high-mileage E 60s. I'm running out of warranty too, but on age, not miles; so, I have to decide on extending the warranty coverage...which I am loathe to do.
My E 39 6 speed had to have a cat converter replaced and that alone was $1600, plus brakes and rotors. Traded it at 100K though with no other issues (well, the clutch was getting soft in very cold weather).
Any high-milers to comment?
