Default My 545i Nightmare!!!

It has been along time since I have been on this forum. Anyways want to share my nightmare with everyone.

It all started around last year. My 545i would idle rough when I would be at a stop, almost to the point off the engine cutting off. Of course went to the dealer, they said it was fixed but it never was fixed. One day the engine was making the worst sound I have ever heard. There was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine bay. Took it in and the SA told me the piston was hitting the cylinder head. SA informed me the engine needed to be replaced. Cost of a NEW E60 545i engine $18,000! Third party warranty through CarMax would only pay $8,000. Or they would find me a used engine and I pay nothing. I went for the latter, of course used engine was rubbish and it needed to be replaced within 2 weeks. I get it back again, within one week the engine starts to give the signs of breaking down again. Bear in mind these repairs took place over a 6 month period. After the signs of the 3rd engine needing to be replaced I gave up. All the repairs were done at local shop since my bmw dealer wont deal with used parts, which is a good policy. But I could not justify paying $10,000 on an new engine for 10 year old car. So I took it to CarMax and they gave me $9,000 for it with all its problems. I felt such a huge lift when I turned in the keys. I admit when it worked it was amazing, but it was just too troublesome. I do love BMW's, but they are just too over engineered. If I do get another BMW in my life I will definitely trade it in by 50,000 miles. That seems to be the end of the honeymoon phase.

But look what I found in Colorado Springs with only 500 miles on it.
2013 Roush Stage 3 565HP Beast!!! Anyways happy motoring Gents and Good Luck!

Best of luck with the new car. Can't say I blame you. BMWs reliability outside of the warranty period on the whole is pretty atrocious. It's really unfortunate, because it didn't used to be that way.

I plan on buying a new car in a year or two, and right now I seriously doubt it will be a BMW.

Yeah it will be hard for me to go back to BMW. It was always unsettling every time I went into the dealer for service/REPAIRS and it was packed with other BMW owners.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!

BMW has "Be My Women" written all over it.

...or was that "Be My Women and Break My Wallet" working concurrently? Never mind, forget what I said...

Have a good day, I am getting ready to go to my second job so I can make some money to get my car fixed again. j/k ;-)

OP, nice car!
