It?s not me stopping in time that concerns me?it?s always the guy behind me that worries me.

I'm in the habit of tapping or hitting the horn when I'm stopping in emergencies... We have so many IDIOT drivers where I am... However doing this, I've always saved some chump from rear ending me, normally they'll even give you a thank you wave... As they may have been on the phone (normal here in the US) or paying no attention...
Edited to add that I had this happen on the 405 South of LAX, the fast lane stopped for NO reason... I kept distance and slowed in time, I knew CLEARLY the dudes behind me woulnd't. I pulsed the horn while slowing and they got the point and started going into the carpool lane...
I truly believe we need legislation in the US requiring handsfree kits/headphones and rules about NOT holding or touching the phone. I don't care what people think if you're talking on the phone you are NOT able to react to an out of norm situation quickly.

I agree with you Nick. When I was home on leave in NC people paid more attention to their phone than the road. I am glad that here in Germany you cannot talk on a cell phone unless you are handsfree, or you have to pull off the road.

Did you know that BMW employees are not allowed to talk on the phone while in their company cars? Customer Assist gal told me this. Good policy. I can't believe the number of drivers on their phones while making complex manuevers like pulling out across traffic and making a left turn, etc. That's tha main reason I bought the CPT9000 for my E60, I just didn't feel comfortable even with the headset I had. It's so much easier to use voice command (when it works). How do others feel?

When I have to do a panic stop or if there is some hazards in the road ahead of me, I always put the hazard lights on to signal to peoplebehind me to watch out and stay sharp!
Yup, same here if I start to hit heavy traffic all of a sudden. Got in this habit when I first started driving reguarly in Germany...
Always use my hazard flashers when traffic slows suddenlyor stops ahead on the highway. The yellow flashing lights alerts the traffic behind so you don't get rear-ended. This is a movement good truck drivers have used for years.VERY EFFECTIVE. I wish the E60 had larger flashers like the E39 has.
