my 2008 550i won't start until 10 minutes later.

You need to replace the IVM module. Common problem on 7 series, and some 5 series.

Isn't the starter relay a soldered in part of the IVM?

it could be anything. if it happens again, see if you can see if there is actually voltage going to the starter solenoid, so you can rule out a finicky starter at least.

Just posted the probable cause, man. It's probably your IVM module and it causes your symptoms with the no start issues. Do a search for IVM module and you'll see...

I will try the voltage test first. I will definitely look into the IVM module. Thanks for the great advice everybody.

After reading about the IVM problems...it really sounds like that's the culprit. Thanks my 5series buddies! I will replace It soon and cross my fingers.

I just swapped out my IVM couple days ago. Let's see what happens.
