Mute suddenly stuck on

Need some help guys. Everything in my car worked perfect yesterday evening, I came home and parked it as usual. I went to get in my car and the stereo is stuck on mute!!! I never pushed the mute button last night or today. I can still change between songs and between radio and cd and everything else appears to be working fine but I cant get it to get off mute. When I hit the voice command button it still works and I can hear the voice. And I just had a new battery installed by BMW 2 weeks ago if that matters. Thanks
Oh yeah, I read alot about blue tooth and should mention that at no time yesterday did I recieve or make a call from my car

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.

I suddenly developed this problem twice in the last week. Rebooting the iDrive (two ejects + Mute) does reset the issue as does keeping the car off until it goes to sleep. But being the LAST day of my warranty today I took it in and BMW have said that the car requires a full software update. So even though I didn't want to I'll be getting PROGRAM 33.0 now.

33.0 ? I just had mine upgraded yesterday and only got 32.1. I wonder why I didn't get 33.0. It's not something I care about particularly, 32.1 is a huge upgrade over what I had (circa 2004).
