Thumbs up

My 550i had a new clutch installed at 15k. I'd been complaining about too high pedal position at release since the car was new. They said the auto-adjust would fix it, but it didn't and my dealer replaced the whole package under warranty. It was better for 2-3k miles but I've noticed it's working its way back up higher and I expect another issue soon. I only have 7k on this one...

Have any other manual drivers dealt with this? Can I somehow prevent premature failure? I've been driving manual cars exclusively for 30 years- I own 3 right now so I'm pretty sure it's not me (to get ahead of some of you guys!).

Any ideas?

My Ride: 535i 6-speed
Model Year: 2008
Default

I have a '08 535i 6-speed and have had no issues. Also, I can't say that this clutch feels very different than any of the others...particularly the '95 525i 5-speed that I had for the past 13 years and 250K miles. I've always heard that the clutch should be releasing about 1/3 before your foot comes off the pedal.

Thanks Allen- I'd say mine releases at a point approx 80% if the way off the floor, or in the last 20% max of travel. It's different than any other clutch I've ever had. If it stays this way forever I'm fine- but I'm worried it's on it's way out again...

I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary either.

Could it be related to the action of the CDV or what BMW calls the Lock Valve?

This has been discussed at length. I'm considering removing mine, but would be concerned with warranty issues.

I plan on keeping this car for 10 years, so I certainly don't want to mess with the warranty of the clutch.

Anybody remove the CDV on a 535 yet? Noticeable improvement or not?

What is this auto-adjust mentioned?

Honestly I've never had a clutch go out (fail/need replacement), but I have driven cars that needed new clutches. I thought that when it's getting time for a new clutch, the clutch begins releasing very close to when the pedal is on the floor...not when it is close to the top...no?
