LOL, couldn't agree more about the useless gauges. One of the nice features of the BMS JB4 or if your non-turbo, the BMS CAN Tool is that you can remap the guages on the fly! I usually set my fuel guage to intake temp and my MPG to boost pressure! That way I can just leave the display set to show miles to empty. You'll get an indicator if your oil temp climbs too high from I-Drive.

I have some experience with the German mentality.

And to Germans, they have bought into the "Green" concept 100%. The "Green Party" in Germany, is very powerful, that is why the "Ultimate Driving Machine" has an MPG gauge in its cluster instead of Oil Pressure or Coolant Temperature.

"Saving the Planet" is Number One!

In the USA, we know that this gauge is pure BS.

But to the "Green's in Germany", it is hallowed ground. It is outright DANGEROUS to stare at your MPG gauge while driving down the road.

But to the Green Party in Germany, that is EXACTLY where your eyes should be focused:

On saving fuel in a V8 powered 5 series.

I'm sorry for the soap box, as I know we have many "Green's" on this forum. But an MPG gauge is pure BS.

I bought my BMW to get more chicks but that is besides the point.

My MPG is 19.1 after oil change and spark plugs. 05 530i I would think its average, but i have no care for.

I averaged 35.7 MPH and 21.9 MPG over 171 miles on a 05, 545i.
