MPG increased by 20% !

My Ride: 2007 530d M Sport Automatic, Le Mans Edition.Le Mans Blue Individual Paint Special, Syrah Blue Individual Leather, Piano Black Individual Interior Trim, Front seat heating,M Double Spoke 172 19
I usually like to check that my fuel consumption is OK for the low mileage that I cover now that I've reached free bus-pass age!
I suspected that the computer readout was lower than what I was getting and a simple check between fill-ups confirmed this.
I went into idrive,vehicle settings,units - only to find that US mpg was selected instead of IMP mpg ! I selected IMP mpg and the average mpg immediately went up by 20%.Now, why a 2007 UK spec. car should have that option puzzles me, but a friends 2009 model does not.
As I'm sure you will all know, 1 UK gallon = 1.2 US gallon .
By the way,when I used my spare smartkey,the setting was again US mpg ,so I had to change it again.
I assume that this should have been done by the dealer before taking delivery,if they knew about it !
