Hey guys, I want to get MP3 support on my motor, i currently have a 6cd changer on my 2005 E60, but does not take MP3 cds at all.. what is it i actualy need? Is it just software... as i called the company at the below link and they said for me to call bmw direct and ask if my car can support the upgrade and if i get the pasts they would fit it. but i didnt think there were any parts just for an MP3 support

No MP3 capability on 6CD Changer ... only in dash CD plays (with appropriate s/w version) MP3s. This subject has been discussed at great length! Search MP3 and it will help.

The dash CD/DVD will play MP3s provided the car has the right software version. My '05 didn't have it and I had to get it updated (under warranty). I don't thnk it matters what CD burning software you use to create the MP3 CD

Correct. I believe CIP 23 or 24 is the minimum for MP3 support. Talk to your service advisor. It's possible MP3 support can be put in no charge. You'll get the latest SW which is something like CIP 31 but now with new names. You'll also get lots of goodies like NAV POI search.

Also, Nero or equivalent is the best for producing MP3 CDs. Otherwise you don't get the proper displays and ID tags, etc. All this info is available from searches.
