I don't think he's being a dick. There are minimum requirements for enabling this feature. See below...

You can definitely add MP3 capabilities to your car, and they will do it for free, provided your car includes the CCC and was built prior to Oct-05. Here's the SIB that everyone is referring to:

Ryan,

I also had issues getting the dealer to do the SIB for enabling mp3 playback. I ended up going to 2 different dealers, even the second dealer was giving me grief due to my bld date, but the SIB states "E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation from SOP to 9/29/05 vehicle production". The dealer's original version was AFTER 03/2005 bld date, but this revised SIB states TO 09/2005. They tried it and it works great. Just don't tell them you installing the iPod interface... only want to play mp3's!

Here's my thread for reference, but the content is already noted in your thread.

Will the sib work if your car isn out of warranty. Sounds like its a warranty only type deal if you want it done for free.

Generally, I believe it's only free if you're still under warranty.

Mine is an Feb 2005 built 545i. I had the dealer do the Mp3 software retrofit and cost $170 Australian Dollars (US$110). It works fine for my home Mp3 burnt CDs. After the Mp3 retrofit. Both my DVD and CD player now plays Mp3's.

I suggest you goto another dealer.

Since the subject is up...my car was built in 3/05 545i, I have bluetooth and Sat radio; however, I do not think I have MP3 retrofit. If I take my car to dealer would they do a retofit for me, I am still under original warranty until June '09 so I am trying to get all done prior to expiration...

Please shed some light, I like to know what I am talking about; otherwise, I hear BS stories from my SA. I've learned the hard way..

Thanks a mill!!!

That SIB should work. My bld date is 01/2005 and they fought it at first stating that the bld date had to be 03/2005 or newer, but the SIB clearly states that is applies UP TO 09.2005, so you're covered.

Just complain that you have a whole library of mp3 disks and want to play them in the car. Don't mention or acknowledge that you'd like to put in an iPod interface.
