I just had the software upgraded on my 2005 545i - I was hoping to be able to play mp3's; however the cd still does not recognize a cd with mp3s. Here is my config

1) September 2004 production - 2005 545
2) no NAV
3) regular single in dash cd player

My dealer is clueless

Here are my questions

1) Should my 2005 545 play mp3's??

2) If not will a future software upgrade make this possible?

3) How can I find out through the I drive the eact software version that i now have? Can I access this info through the i drive ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Welcome frankpatel22

The car should be able to play mp3's but the software is the key. It's specifically contingent on your software version and it looks like you may not have the latest version. E60's with NAV are expected to support MP3 with a version that is/was due around about now, for non-nav users I think the latest versions do support mp3 playback. There does not appear to be any way that users can reliably determine their own software revision - only your dealer can tell you that. Not sure where you're located but that may also be a factor as some dealers take a while to receive the latest CIP versions. Hopefully a software update will take care of this but you may need to wait for a later version to be available to your dealer. One other thing - only the in dash drives will support mp3 - if you have or get a CD changer then that will not play mp3 discs even when you do get the latest software. Suggest you talk to your dealer. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your response - since my car was produced in September 2004 and I dont have NAV someone told me that my radio is the business version and not the Pro version and therefore I will NEVER have MP3 capability

Anyone know if this is true???

Yes, unfirtunately this is true.

I guess you'Re in the US, and radio pro became standard March 2005, so your car was built too early and only has radio bus. With nav you would have gotten radio pro, but now you're stuck without MP3 playback.

Thanks iceman and swejames for the responses. Is it possible for me to upgrade to a pro radio?? Is it likely that a software upgrade will ever be available for the business radio without NAV

Well, everything is possible, but I dunno about the cost. Probably waaaay too expensive.
I don't think there will be a chance for radio bus too get MP3 playback.

Frank: Have you researched adding an AUX-IN jack so that you can plug in an MP3 player. This would be a superior solution overall and although I am no expert, its seems easy and possible for you to add to your Sept.2004 production 545.
