i have a 2005 (March 2005 build) e60 with CDC and I have been told I CAN get mp3 ENEABLED in the car.
I just need to take the bulleting to any bmw service centre and they will do it for free
I believe that is because of the build of your car. My situation is mine was built 11/04, and I don't have the CCC controller, I have the MASK controller, so enabling mp3 playback is not an option for me. But with yours, you already have the capability, but just needs the option enabled.

Hope this helps. This is how I have come to understand it.

Good Luck!

It says it right in the SIB that this is covered under the warranty. My dealer still tried to charge me for it. But it should be free.

Good Luck!

I just bought a used 2006 525i, build date April, 2005. Much to my surprise, the CD player plays MP3's perfectly and the file names show up on the iDrive screen. The car is completely stock and I do not have NAV. I just thought I'd share this because it seems contradictory to most of the information I've seen on the forum.

Thats good info because I thought the date was actually 03/05 instead of 09/05 but the bulletin said 09/05 and others said 09/05 so I thought I remembered wrong. Maybe the date is 03/05. Since that was when it switched model year to 2006.

no, it was a bone stock leased 545 that my friend's father drove around. it was on the old software too, not the grey screen V25 and later.
Are you sure they were MP3's? I could burn CD audio and play it but never MP3's. If they were MP3's, his would be the first and only case I've ever heard of...

Check the car service history, next time you bring it in to the dealer for any service. The previous owner must have had the mp3 retro done.

OK I was mistaken I Know why I keep thinking March 2005.. thats when they switched over from Business Radio to Professional Radio. All 2006+ non Nav cars got Prof radio as opposed to business radio prior. (* I dont think this has anything to do with MP3 capability *) I'm just posting to clarify why I had 03/05 stuck in my head.
