If you dont have NAV... As long as you have a MY06 car you can play MP3s. with the proper s/w update.

EBMC,
I have a 05 545 with a june 05 build. The head unit is standard and I do not have nav. Could I get mp3's with the CIP upgrade and retrofit? Thanks.

I think I figured out some of the confusion
in 3/05 they started making 2006 525 and 530's - so they have mp3 playability
BUT in 6/05 they were still making 2005 545's without mp3
maybe?

Oooo you're in a tricky situation... you have a 2005 545~ seems like the BMW Documents say you cant... but I know BMW went and switched over to Professional Radio during March 2005 on the E60s. And thats whats basically needed to play MP3s. Prof radio contains the Hard ware needed to decode mp3 files.
Even though BMW documents say only Model Year 2006s with M-ASK (basically those that dont have NAV) can play MP3s I dont see why they would put two different type of radios in the V8s and I6 engines between March and September. I would think they would just put the same radio into all cars to make it easier.
I dont know. But you have a chance. maybe someone here has a Post March 2005 built 545 and have gotten MP3s enabled...
