I have a Sep 06 535d with Media Pack, but standard audio and it plays OK. However, on a CD with about 170 tracks on it, there are about 10% it refuses to play. It shows them, you click them, it thinks about it and goes on to the next track.

There is a reason for this, be it tag info or a max no. of files on a CD - I just can't remember what it is. I bought a Kenwood mp3 player 7 years ago for a Volvo I had, and it explained what triggers this issue.

Anyone got a handle on it?

Hello,

I ordered a 520d LCI in February. Didn't think much about the audio system and didn't take the USB option. Now I'm starting to wonder how bad that choice was. I will have to check with the dealership whether I might still change my order. I recall that my car was planned for production on April 11. Delivery (Belgium) to dealer planned for 9 May.
Just in case it's no longer possible to change my order, I wonder: does the standard system allow for MP3 playback? Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure whether the standard system is a CD or DVD system. What is it?

HELP ME! I have an LCI 525d with HiFi-package, and I have tried two MP3 CD's (with recommended settings taken from another thread here). Those discs didn't work, so can you give me the settings you used?
I burned them on CD using the WinXP burning option. Very basic: select the mp3s, right click & choose send to D: (=drive letter of my cd-burner). Go to D: in explorer, it will list the files 'waiting to burn on cd' or something like that. Select burn from file menu and choose 'data cd' (not music cd - probably winXP will convert the mp3s into wavs then). That's it!

Just insert and wait.

That's very good to hear, I have ordered a 520d SE in the UK and didn't order the 6FL/USB option. I tried to change my order but the dealer said it was too late (only ten days after placing order?). Anyway I would be happy to burn mp3 cd's as an alternative to plugging in a USB device (even though it's not as flexible).

Just a thought, did you try playing an mp3 player via the aux input - my experiences with these things haven't been good in the past but we are talking BMW so maybe there's hope.....

I use the AUX to connect my ipod in my BMW116i and it works great so you shouldn't have a problem there. But you will have to control everything on the ipod and not through the car stereo.

Thanks for that Gorban, I don't mind that as I would usually just let it play randomly.
