My Ride: 520d LCI, old engine, manual, black dakota, platingrau II, standard (242?) rims.
Thumbs up

Hello,

I ordered a 520d LCI in February. Didn't think much about the audio system and didn't take the USB option. Now I'm starting to wonder how bad that choice was. I will have to check with the dealership whether I might still change my order. I recall that my car was planned for production on April 11. Delivery (Belgium) to dealer planned for 9 May.

Just in case it's no longer possible to change my order, I wonder: does the standard system allow for MP3 playback? Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure whether the standard system is a CD or DVD system. What is it?

I'm not so sure that the std CD is mp3 capable!?
Not here i Sweden anyway...The specs say that you need the Prof Radio/CD for mp3 playback.
However, I have heard someone saying that the dealer can activate mp3 on a std CD..BUT..I don't know of anyone being successful with this, so...
Good luck anyway and please tell us how it went.

I have ordered the Business CD together with the 6FL USB option. According to the Swedish broschure, Business CD now comes with mp3 playback.

follow-up:
Today I burned a CD with 180 MP3s and it played perfectly in my 520d LCI.
Hence, the standard audio in the LCI reads MP3s from CD!

As you can see at the left (newbie), I may be talking out of my A*%, but I think the standard CD player is MP3 capable, but the optional disc changer is not.

That's very good to hear, I have ordered a 520d SE in the UK and didn't order the 6FL/USB option. I tried to change my order but the dealer said it was too late (only ten days after placing order?). Anyway I would be happy to burn mp3 cd's as an alternative to plugging in a USB device (even though it's not as flexible).

Just a thought, did you try playing an mp3 player via the aux input - my experiences with these things haven't been good in the past but we are talking BMW so maybe there's hope.....

I was also very pleasantly surprised to hear the first song after 5-7 seconds of spinning :-)

I did not try an MP3 player on the aux input and I probably won't. Perfectly happy with 150-180 songs per cd :-)

HELP ME! I have an LCI 525d with HiFi-package, and I have tried two MP3 CD's (with recommended settings taken from another thread here). Those discs didn't work, so can you give me the settings you used?
